Conifer Tree Oils Stop The Crazies

Liz James · September 13, 2023 ·

🌲🌟Wednesday PSA 🌟🌲
For the nerdy inclined πŸ€“πŸ§ , here’s an interesting study: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00226-023-01490-6 (Title: Utilization of essential oils mainly from Cupressaceae trees in the work environment creates a psychophysiological stress-relieving effect. )
Β
Recap:
🌲Study results suggest that certain conifer tree oils may help calm the crazy.
🌲Inhaling our “fir” friends may be beneficial in helping the body’s relaxation response. (We live way too often in the fight, πŸ₯Šflight,πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ or freeze😱 state of mind.)
Pro Tip: If the rest of your office (or home) tends to lean toward the cray cray meter, consider diffusing the situation. πŸ˜‰

Pregnancy Hormones and Depression

Liz James · September 11, 2023 ·

prenatal antidepressant exposure
There’s a time and a place for Western medicine, and with that, it should always be accompanied by risk vs. benefit and informed consent.
Β
Pregnancy is one time in a woman’s life when hormones (including the thyroid) and life in general have the potential to go wacko. I’ve seen waaaaaaay too many women prescribed antidepressants while pregnant while being assured that it’s “safe” for their baby. In the same appointment, not giving the mama the space/time to talk out the reasons they may be experiencing some anxiety or moody blues, or the extensive labwork to confirm that there isn’t a nutrient or transient hormone imbalance, etc. I’ll also add that it is just not common for a western medicine oriented practitioner to give a mama some healthy options for improving mood/mindset during pregnancy (instead of meds).
Β
For the last year, so much has been finally revealed about SSRIs (cliff notes version: They do not do what the drug manufacturers have stated that they do in the way they’ve been stated that they do it🧐).
You may recognize SSRIs by name: Lexapro (escitalopram), Zoloft (sertraline), Prozac (fluoxetine), Paxil (paroxetine), Celexa (citalopram), etc. They are among the most prescribed medications in the USA.
Back to the question. Are taking SSRIs during pregnancy worth it? Informed consent is where this is at….. Would you…. if you knew that prenatal SSRI exposure had an effect on fetal brain development, particularly in brain regions critical to emotional processing, and may be associated with future susceptibility to anxiety disorders, hyperactivity, and maladaptive processing skills? (You can read more about one of these studies here: https://jamanetwork.com/…/jama…/article-abstract/2676821 )
Β
Another representative (there are many) study, (found here: https://jamanetwork.com/…/jama…/article-abstract/2808722 ), has found that antidepressant use in pregnancy is associated with neonatal withdrawal syndrome, preterm birth, congenital disabilities, developmental problems, cardiopulmonary problems, and even death.
Β
How might each of these outcomes have been more likely avoided, had a healthcare professional, listened and gotten a mama plugged into a support community or counseling professional who could have helped her alleviate some of the stressors common in today’s world (and exacerbated by pregnancy)….or run labs and identified a deficiency root cause and addressed that with nutrition and supplementation instead….. or given her coping strategies such as yoga for pregnancy, true nutritional counseling, exercises, calming (and safe!) herbal teas and other non harmful herbal🌿 based strategies. ( If you’ve been around the “alternative mindset/ holistically minded community, you know exactly what you’d reach for πŸ˜‰. And if you haven’t, it’s time to find your tribe who can help you. It’s not healthy living on an island alone.) ?….. instead of prescribing an SSRIπŸ’Š.
Β
If you have a helpful healthy tip for an expecting mama, show them some community love, and drop it here.
Mindful Monday friends. Have a great one 😘 xoxo~ liz

Young Living’s September Free Gifts

Liz James · September 1, 2023 ·

Kicking off September🏈 ya’ll! Can you believe we are already well into the second half of 2023? In addition to 🏈 football and πŸ‚falling leaves, Fall always brings an uptick of unwell days in households everywhere. Thankfully, WE HAVE TOOLS! πŸ˜‰ Since you are here…. you have access to them, and this month some of the best wellness tools are FREE with qualifying purchase.
Β
🏈Orange Vitality: Orange🍊 is such an amazingly charming secret weapon. Sure, it smells amazing, but pretty is as pretty does. It offers digestive support and immune support (among many other things. Don’t forget to check out the scientific researchπŸ€“ available on the Young Living website. A quick peek there on orange revealed 6 studies (there’s way more than that out there in Pubmed should you really want to dive deeply).
Β
🏈Thieves Chest Rub: I’ll just say this….. It’s silly not to take advantage of this freebie right now, because when the 🦠hits the airways, you want ALL the tools handy right then right now. Thieves Chest Rub (on the chest, back, and/or bottoms of feet) is a massive game changer. You’ll pat yourself on the back for getting this freebie before you actually need it. 😘
Β
🏈Nutmeg: Now, you might be thinking…. what can I use nutmeg for besides making some killer fall recipes? πŸ€” Nutmeg supports cognitive 🧠and immune function. A lesser-known fact (we should all do a challenge and try using it this way for a month)…… nutmeg may be useful for people who tend to wake up too earlyπŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« or in πŸ₯΄the middle of the night! πŸ€“I’m excited to try this for a month before bedtime and see if I notice a change in my own sleep patterns!
Β
🏈Just like Thieves Chest Rub, when the proverbial poop hits the oscillator, you need tools on hand STAT. Raven is one you need on the bench to run in and play. It plays well with its teammates. There are some great study articles on the YL website (go look!). Here’s a peek at a few titles for the nerdly inclined like me πŸ˜πŸ€“
“Suppression of inflammatory and infection responses in lung macrophages….”
“Effect of eucalyptus oil inhalation on pain and inflammatory responses after total knee replacement: a randomized clinical trial”
Β
🏈I might just be most excited about the FREE NingXia Greens as this month’s freebie. We’ve been drinking it regularly since it was introduced last year. (My favorite power drink is NingXia Greens + YL Inner Beauty Collagen + NingXia Red + Zyng 🀩 ). The NingXia Greens is a daily dose of 60+ fruits, vegetables, herbs, algae, and mushrooms. I challenge you to find a better way to get all that micronutrient-dense, digestive and immune-supportive help in a single supplement. This is a supplement that has been on my order every single month since it was introduced….. but not this month since we will be getting it for free πŸ˜‰. (and that YL-branded glass is pretty cute too!)
Β
Did you learn something new in this post about a product you thought you knew? What are you most interested in trying for the first time or using in a different way than you might have used in the past?
Happy Game Day! 🏈
xoxo~ liz
